What becomes of Hangingbox?

So it's been three years. We've played countless shows in a countable amount of countries. We've learned many things about ourselves and about music. We've met some crazy ass people, recorded some cds, taken some of the piss, lived together, fought together, eat together, slept together . . . and so on.

Yes, myself (Jonathan), Kyle, Paul and Alex have pretty much spent way to much time around each other for the last 3 years.

So what now for us - The foursome with the moresome, the scooter pushing crusaders, the dancing dirt dogs? Well, ladies and gentlemen: Hangingbox will be disbanding for six months, from Now (August, some date . . .) until March 2009. "Why is this?" I hear you scream. Well, I, Jonathan will be doing my course in Germany, while Paul finishes off his final year in college (the reason we didn't stay in London . . . you bastard) - So the gauntlet has been laid down, this will be our biggest test so far to see if we'll stay together as a band and continue to write frightfully great songs. We hope you stick with us and see us on the other side. Thanks for all your love and support! Thanks to everyone who helped make our London trip so memorablethis summer, from the great people of Cork who ended up here to those who helped us out in general, we hope you still love us next year (we're comin back for ye!).

So that's it. Apart from the possibility of an odd German gig on the horizon, 2008 is now closed for the boys in brown. - Jonathan.

8 days, 4 gigs and lots of guests

What's this? Hangingbox on stage? Have the boys finally started pretending to be a real band and forgone boats, picnics and Scientology in favour of actually playing gigs?

Yes.

Overkill was the order of the day as the purveyors of perversion forced 4 gigs upon their anxious public in the space of a week, during which the entire population of Cork invaded London to get their fix of Box-based raunchiness and Great British weather.
Said weather was very hot, then suddenly very rainy, catching the dynamic duo (plus 2) off guard.
Apart from playing gigs and staying indoors, the defenders of interplanetary justice still found time to harbour dozens of peasant refugees from the Emerald Isle, turning the HB house into some kind of wacky squatter-hostel thing.
With a fun past behind them and an unsure future ahead, the pastors of politics are in for an interesting month...

Thanks to our smashing, yes smashing friend zach, who knows everyone bar the queens dick - we've been vip'ing our way around london for the last two weeks. i don't think any of us had ever been on guestlists before or seen a "celebrity" - but we're cool now. we're the cool kids like. here are some pictures of the last gig, other stuff and something from our new gig!

Happy Belated Canada Day

The big city adventures of the Foursome with the Moresome in the last week or so featured more unprecedented amounts of walking, the bare minimum of working, at least one bassist held captive in Ireland and generally lots of looking at stuff. In a break from the norm, Mario Kart fetishist Paul actually did something this week, although when that something involves being felt up by a creepy man in a basement perhaps he would be better off sticking to being sad in his room. Meanwhile, intrepid adventure-seekers Jonathan and Kyle continued the Hangingbox tradition of flirting with new religions by paying a visit London's Scientology centre, returning with a whole new view on life

Fortunately the pair managed to avoid the ritual brainwashing and quickly made their way to the nearby St. Paul's cathedral, to buy sandwiches.
The Boys in Brown also put in an appearance at the disappointment-fest that was the recent Canada Day celebrations in Trafalgar Square, ostensibly bereft of polar bears, hockey players, maple syrup, or anything remotely Canadian (unless you count the 'Taste of Ontario' stall; I don't).

In a surprising twist, Hangingbox recently justified their status as a band and actually played a gig. The World's End in Camden played host to several hours of sandwiches, culminating in music. Following on from the success of this show, the boys will put on their gigging shoes once more as they entertain the Fiddler's Elbow in Camden on the 12th. 8pm

No more laurel-resting for us!

Photographer Martin Streit will be returning home tomorrow so our photos will be a lot less stylish from now on.

Boats. Jealous?

Yes, London may be a small town with not much going for it, but it does have a big lake with boats and shit. We foolishly opted for the impossible-to-control row boat and soon realised our folly. Accordingly we commandeered some much nicer pedalos from some equally as nice Muslim girls (apparently it's called piracy when you take over someone's boat when they don't want you to). Paul was absent for these antics, he was busy having a job and bringing home the bacon, then eating it along with everything else he could get his hands on.
Our sordid rock & roll behaviour led us last night to the pinnacle of debauchery, the infamous rite of passage for budding rock stars; the table quiz. Due to being lots of people, we were split up. Team Jonathan and Alex won. Like, the whole quiz. What?

On the plus side, I (Kyle) have taken over the writing of the blog, presumably because I can spell, but more likely because Jon is lazy.

shit! we found out last night that there's an ice skating rink 10 minutes walk from our place - we love ice skating (well paul doesn't) yaaaaa. yesterday we ended up in Leicester Square where there was some west end festival thing. the car from back to the future was there! we also met some random guy dressed as indiana jones. after that we went to some fucking HUGE hara crshna festival in trafalger square. everyone was dressed in really bright colors and throwing flowers around, it was great! London is fun, it's impossible to get bored - it's also impossible to not be fucking wrecked from walking and tubing and drinking and so on. oh and some of us kind of have jobs now. well. kind of.

here are some pictures from the last few days, - we played our first gig of the summer last night, it wasn't too bad - thanks to everyone who came, even those who were late, that was very cool - the picture of me covered in blood, yes blood shall remain a mystery. the video is just plain stupid. 0h there's another gig next sunday, in camden and it seems to be in the day, our myspace has all the details. Maybe ill try to put them up on the right >>>

the longest 10 days ever

these pictures are from our first 10 days in london (from the 5th) and some from barcelona. it's been pretty fun, i don't think we've slept yet really - - we haven't done any gigs yet (first one is thursday) so there's not much band related stuff going on. basically we've been shopping, exploring, drinking, seeing radiohead,eating amazing food, playing with pigeons, kyle has gotten five parking tickets and had his car broken into, i(jonathan) found a bike in barcelona . . . paul starts work in his new job tomorrow while we hand out cv's and wash our clothes. alex wants to buy white pants(trousers). london is a huge place - i think its bigger than cork i'd say . . . very cool.

"aren't i a great person, look at me! i have a fucking bike!" - alex took this down in his phone after i said it so we could remember the momentous sentence.

oh, our fucking washing machine broke and we have to buy a new kettle! also myself and kyle just a had a pretty big fight about a post i was going to put up about his shit balls. but i refrained. Well - - more updates soon! don't be scared to come back!
